{"id":110967,"date":"2024-04-30T14:24:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T19:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=110967"},"modified":"2024-04-30T16:53:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T21:53:03","slug":"cancer-center-to-display-finding-works-by-linda-fleming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/04\/30\/cancer-center-to-display-finding-works-by-linda-fleming\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancer center to display &#8216;Finding: Works by Linda Fleming&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The gallery space on Level 1 of the Fred &amp; Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will host the exhibition &#8220;Finding: Works by Linda Fleming&#8221; from Friday, May 3, through Nov. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in 1945 in Pittsburgh, Fleming displayed an aptitude for art at an early age, and her talents earned her a full scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University in 1963. Fleming is primarily a sculptor, although drawing is an important component of her work. She works in steel, wood, rubber, felt and paper. Her sculpture can be identified by intricate patterns resembling lace, tendrils of smoke or webs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her practice draws from the desert and mountain environments surrounding her studios in Colorado, Nevada and California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArt has allowed me to dream, depict, investigate, map, study and free myself from gravity,\u201d Fleming said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This exhibition spans Fleming\u2019s career, from vessel drawings that capture reflections to pastel sketches of 3D movement to chromed steel wall sculptures that reflect the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLinda Fleming creates places of shadow and light, where the viewer can become a participant by entering the reflections,\u201d said Colleen Heavican Cass, Healing Arts curator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more about
