The Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health will celebrate Women\u2019s Health Week, a special time each year for women to invest in their physical and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, four wellness and educational events will be offered. The wellness events on May 15 and May 17 are in person and space is limited; pre-registration is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday, May 14<\/strong>
UNMC College of Nursing and Olson Center webinar on food insecurity in Nebraska\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalia Santos, of the UNMC College of Public Health Department of Health Promotion, will present an online webinar,\u00a0\u201cExploring the Topic of Food Insecurity in Nebraska,\u201d\u00a0at noon.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food insecurity affects 37 million Americans, and 2.2 million affected households are in rural communities. This presentation aims to introduce participants to concepts of food insecurity and how it impacts Nebraskans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the health care team. The University of Nebraska Medical Center designates this activity for 1.0 ANCC contact hour. Nurses should only claim credit for the actual time spent participating in the activity. Wednesday, May 15<\/strong>
Wellness Through Doing: Cake Decorating 101<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emma Freedman, owner of Freedman Baking Company, will teach the basics of cake decorating. With some basic buttercream decorating skills, you too can impress friends and family with beautiful cakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This class will be from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Olson Center classroom with the cost of $40.\u00a0Participants will take home basic decorating tools and a beautiful cake they decorate.\u00a0Space is limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday, May 16<\/strong>
Stroke and women<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stroke affects women differently than men, with women having a higher lifetime risk of suffering a stroke and worse outcomes.\u00a0Marco Gonzalez Castellon, MD, vascular neurologist in the UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences and medical director of the Nebraska Medicine Telestroke Program,\u00a0will discuss the risk factors that contribute to this increased risk, as well as interventions that can help prevent stroke.\u00a0Treatment options for those who have experienced a stroke also will be reviewed.\u00a0This online presentation will be held from noon-1 p.m.\u00a0To register, email\u00a0the Olson Center<\/a>\u00a0or call 402-559-6345.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
