On Wednesday (June 5), UNMC Chancellor and incoming University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, will highlight \u2013 in a national conversation \u2013 the ingenuity shown during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gold will join the Brown University School of Public Health Pandemic Center<\/a>, the COVID Collaborative<\/a> and the CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security<\/a> for the launch of the American Democracy and Health Security Initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the webcast, Dr. Gold will join national leaders \u2013 from governors, advisors and health leaders to community organizations, educators, businesses and crisis managers \u2013 to discuss how to make the country more resilient against future health security threats. Participants also will identify national and local innovations to reinvigorate leadership, bipartisanship and equitable access in the face of the next health emergency in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUNMC played an important role in the country\u2019s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I\u2019m looking forward to sharing our story, as well as speaking with other national leaders about the future of pandemic response,\u201d Dr. Gold said. \u201cOur experience with COVID, always building new partnerships with federal and local partners as a trusted source of information, has defined our approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story of how America fared under the COVID-19 pandemic is two stories. While the more well-known story is one of failure, confusion and polarization, the other story is one of American ingenuity amidst profound uncertainty. State and local leaders were at the center of this untold story \u2013 in serving their communities they innovated, bridged divides and illuminated America\u2019s path during the COVID-19 pandemic\u2019s darkest days. The American Democracy and Health Security Initiative spotlights these lamplighters and harvests their hard-won lessons to ensure the most successful strategies can be sustained or replicated in future crises.

On June 5, the American Democracy and Health Security Initiative also will publish its findings on what actionable steps are needed to advance health security for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
