The UNMC College of Medicine received grant and funding awards representing more than $4 million in new funding in April and May. Awards included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vimla Band, PhD,<\/strong> genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $1,544,999 from the U.S. Army\/USAMRAA\/CDMRP for the study \u201cA Novel ER Stress Mitigation Pathway in ErbB2-Driven Oncogenesis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aditya Bade, PhD,<\/strong>\u00a0pharmacology and experimental neuroscience, received a grant of $573,445 from the DHHS\/NHI\/Office of the Director for the study \u201cIntegrase Inhibitors during Pregnancy and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes: Underlying Mechanism and Therapeutic Intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Padmashri Ragunathan, PhD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $343,931 from the DHS\/NHI\/NIAA for the study \u201cCellular mechanisms of auditory processing deficits in a mouse model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph Americo Fernandes, MD,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $250,000 from Massachusetts General Hospital for a master agreement on the ALL ALS East – ALL ALS Consortium project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Mott, MD, PhD, <\/strong>biochemistry and molecular biology, received a grant of $125,935 from DHHS\/NIH\/NIGMS for the medical scientist training program at the University of Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew Zimmerman, PhD,\u00a0<\/strong>cellular and integrative physiology, received a grant of $102,645 from Boys Town National Research Hospital for the study \u201cCoupling of Elevated Inflammasome Levels and Altered Neural Oscillatory Dynamics in NeuroHIV.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aaron Barksdale, MD,<\/strong> emergency medicine, received a grant of $42,001 from the University of Michigan for \u201cPOST-ICECAP (Patterns Of Survivors’ recovery Trajectories in the ICECAP trial).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Rowley, PhD,<\/strong> genetics, cell biology and anatomy, received a grant of $38,934 from Fordham University for a study on \u201cDecoding the X-Chromosome Dynamics in the Adult Female Brain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abi Heller,<\/strong> neurological sciences, received a grant of $37,727 from DHS\/NIH\/NIA for a study measuring neurodevelopmental effects of genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease via cross-sectional study of brain, cognitive, and physical fitness variables in periadolescent children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jill Beck, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-hematology\/oncology, received grants of $15,253 and $4,320 from Children\u2019s Nebraska as COG CHMC subawards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karsten Bartels, MD, PhD,<\/strong> anesthesiology, received a grant of $6,300 from the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research for MSARF Summer 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kari Neeman, MD,<\/strong> pediatrics-infectious diseases, received a grant of $6,000 from the Arkansas Children\u2019s Hospital Research Institute for \u201cMulti-Center Molecular Diagnosis and Host Response of Respiratory Viral Infections in Pediatric Transplant Recipients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tammy Wichman, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-pulmonary, received a grant of $5,250 from the University of Pennsylvania for the study \u201cPhysical Activity in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marian Urban, MD, PhD,<\/strong> surgery-cardiothoracic surgery, received funding for a study of hearts transplanted after non-ischemic heart preservation from extended donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey Klute, MD,<\/strong> internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received funding for \u201cTIGeR-PaC: Targeted Intra-arterial Gemcitabine vs. Continuation of IV Gemcitabine plus Nab-Paclitaxel following Induction with sequential IV Gemcitabine plus Nab-Paclitaxel and Radiotherapy for Unresectable Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vijaya Bhatt, MBBS, <\/strong>internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received funding for a study to investigate the efficacy and safety of CYP-001 in combination with corticosteroids vs. corticosteroids alone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omar Abughanimeh, MBBS, <\/strong>internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received funding for two studies: a study of Brentuximab Vedotin in combination with pembrolizumab in subjects with metastatic solid malignancies; and a study of HLX10 plus chemotherapy (Carboplatin-Etoposide) in comparison with Atezolizumab plus chemotherapy in previously untreated U.S. patients with extensive stage small Cell lung cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kerry Rodabaugh, MD, <\/strong>obstetrics and gynecology, received funding as a member institution clinical trial fixed price sub-award agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chittalsinh Raulji, MBBS, <\/strong>pediatrics-hematology\/oncology, received funding for the Concizumab compassionate use program for patients with congenital hemophilia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ronald Zolty, MD, PhD, <\/strong>internal medicine-cardiovascular, received funding for a study of Levosimendan in pulmonary hypertension patients with heart failure and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samia Asif, MBBS, <\/strong>internal medicine-oncology\/hematology, received funding for a study of Ribociclib vs. Palbociclib in patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive\/HER2-negative\/HER2-enriched breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyrus Desouza, MBBS, <\/strong>internal medicine-DEM, received funding for a study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of once-weekly insulin Icodec when switching from daily basal insulins compared to once-daily insulin Glargine U100 in adults with type 2 diabetes; and a study of the efficacy and safety of co-administered cagrilintide and semaglutide (CagriSema 2.4mg\/2.4 mg) once weekly versus semaglutide 2.4 mg, cagrilintide 2.4 mg and placebo in people with chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
