MMI project will support caregivers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new Munroe-Meyer Institute project is designed to show caregivers appreciation and offer support this fall. Members of the Munroe-Meyer Institute community will be invited to participate in a handful of activities and giveaways, said Maggie Neujahr, manager of care coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have so much focus on the child, and we don\u2019t focus on parents as much,\u201d Neujahr said. \u201cWe want to praise parents for all they do to support their children in their development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding for the project comes from a $5,000 grant from the Munroe-Meyer Guild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project falls under another grant, led by Rachel Schumacher, PhD, and Kaitlyn Young, PhD. The larger grant, titled \u201cA Rising Tide Rises All Ships,\u201d will pilot a group-based treatment approach to address child problem behaviors within the context of improving parental wellbeing. The program will empower parents and reduce stress associated with raising children with intellectual and developmental disabilities while enhancing the child\u2019s adaptive and social-emotional skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the projects would include grab-and-go breakfast and self-care kits. A community resource fair also is in the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nebraska HEALING program has Heroes in Health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Spellman, program manager, and Siobhan Wescott, MD, director of the Nebraska HEALING program in the UNMC College of Public Health, were named Heroes in Health for Outstanding Service to Tribal Communities by the National Indian Health Board during its annual gala on May 21 in Rapid City, S.D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is an honor to receive recognition from the National Indian Health Board, but more importantly we are humbled and inspired by the communities we serve who, in spite of the challenges they face daily, persevere with courage, dignity and Wowacintanka \u2013 fortitude,”\u00a0Spellman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food vendors will be available on both the east and west sides of UNMC\u2019s Omaha campus, serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The current schedule is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
