{"id":113360,"date":"2024-07-19T01:58:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-19T06:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=113360"},"modified":"2024-07-17T07:43:04","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T12:43:04","slug":"kent-sievers-retirement-reception-set-for-july-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/07\/19\/kent-sievers-retirement-reception-set-for-july-24\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent Sievers\u2019 retirement reception set for July 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Kent Sievers \u2013 the photographer who captures life at UNMC from behind the lens of his Canon camera \u2013 will retire from UNMC Strategic Communications this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A retirement reception will be held July 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Linder Reading Room inside the Sorrell Center. The campus community is invited to attend. Remarks are scheduled for 3 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sievers joined UNMC in 2019, after an 18-year long career with the Omaha World-Herald. At UNMC, he has captured the day-to-day magic across UNMC\u2019s five campuses. From groundbreakings and grand openings to headshots and commencement, Sievers is a familiar face at UNMC events and is often found strolling campus looking for his next great photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKent\u2019s contributions have significantly enriched UNMC\u2019s archives, thanks to his unique perspective as a visual storyteller and meticulous attention to detail,\u201d said Stacie Hamel, director of projects and digital strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris Christen, senior manager for creative services, added, \u201cBehind the scenes, Kent has quietly served as a mentor, eagerly sharing photo tips, tricks and gadgets, empowering other communicators to excel behind the camera was well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2023 issue of UNMC Connect showcased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/05\/12\/connect-magazine-highlights-unmcs-people-projects-and-pixels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sievers\u2019 \u201cPixel Perfect<\/a>\u201d photography, which documented some of his many images from campus. As he said then, \u201cMagic happens when I pick up a camera. It started in high school while shooting a yearbook assignment with my first real camera, a 35MM Canon FTB. In that instant, I instinctively knew how to capture and share what others might not see. After nearly 50 years behind the lens, I\u2019ve captured the best and worst in this world, had grand adventures and met delightful people. Best of all, I\u2019ve been lucky enough to make people smile and see new perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC\u2019s new chief photographer is Kiley Cruse, an award-winning photojournalist and Sievers\u2019 former colleague at The World-Herald. \u201cWe\u2019re excited for Kiley to bring her exceptional talent and fresh perspective to our team and our campus,\u201d Hamel said.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sievers&#8217;
