Julie Marshall and Yosh Ameku assume new roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Congratulations to Gwen Hlava, RDH, MS, Professor and Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene, who will retire on August 1 after 50 years of service to the College of Dentistry. Gwen is the driving force behind the College\u2019s tradition of excellence in dental hygiene education and patient care. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/02\/06\/hlava-to-retire\/\">Read more about Gwen\u2019s legacy at UNMC.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given Gwen\u2019s retirement, Julie Marshall, DDS, MS, Associate Professor, will assume the role of Interim Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene on August 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Marshall is a dynamic leader in dental education and administration. Her journey at the College of Dentistry began in 1979 when she became a dental hygiene student. After graduating, she earned her DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1987 and immediately returned to the College of Dentistry to teach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout her 37-year tenure at the College, Dr. Marshall has demonstrated remarkable dedication to the growth and success of her students and colleagues. In her new role, she will bring enthusiasm and vision, supporting our dental hygiene faculty as they uphold the department\u2019s long-standing tradition of excellence in education and patient care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to Dr. Marshall\u2019s new appointment, Yosh Ameku, DDS, Clinical Assistant Professor, will assume the role of Vice Chair of the Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ameku brings substantial teaching and leadership expertise to his new role. During his 34-year tenure at the College, Dr. Ameku has distinguished himself as an exceptional educator, guiding hundreds of students to become confident and proficient practitioners.
