The Board of Regents invites University of Nebraska faculty, staff and students, along with all Nebraskans, to save the date for the investiture ceremony for Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, who will be installed as the university\u2019s ninth president on Sept. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K St. in Lincoln. The ceremony also will be live-streamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A reception will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln\u2019s International Quilt Museum, 1523 N. 33rd<\/sup> St. Both events are open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An investiture is an academic ceremony that has symbolized the pursuit of knowledge since the Middle Ages. Today, universities view investitures as opportunities to welcome a new era and celebrate as a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection of the Capitol \u2013 the peoples\u2019 house \u2013 as the site of Dr. Gold\u2019s installation as president of the peoples\u2019 university represents Nebraskans\u2019 collective role in serving the state and building a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI continue to be deeply humbled and honored to serve our great university in this role,\u201d said Dr. Gold, who began his tenure on July 1. \u201cI see this event as an opportunity to join with each and every person who has a stake in the success of the University of Nebraska and our state, reflect on our historic legacy and set the stage for an extraordinary future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur best days are truly ahead, and we will realize them together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty members are invited to march in the formal processional during the investiture. Those marching will be required to wear academic regalia. Regalia orders can be made through an RSVP form here<\/a> and must be submitted by Friday, Aug. 2. Faculty who are planning to march in their own academic attire are asked to fill out the RSVP form to ensure an accurate count of participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
