McGoogan Library to celebrate library’s namesake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head to Level 6 of the McGoogan Library on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from noon-1 p.m. for a sweet treat celebrating the library\u2019s namesake, Leon McGoogan, MD. Library staff will be dishing up slices of birthday cake for the UNMC community (while supplies last). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McGoogan became an obstetrician and delivered around 9,000 babies during his career. He served as chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, from 1950-55 and again from 1961-62. For nearly 60 years he was an instructor in OB\/GYN, and in his later years was senior consultant to the department.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served the library for decades and, upon his death in 1993, left a substantial fund to endow library operations. Not only did Dr. McGoogan lead the way in fundraising and monetary donations himself, he also donated his own rare book collection and contributed his knowledge through many lectures on rare books in the collection and on the history of medicine.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. McGoogan was known around Omaha for his distinctive personalized Nebraska license plate, \u201cSTORK.\u201d Learn more about Dr. McGoogan in his oral history interview.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join the Corporate Cycling Challenge team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Med center employees are invited to join the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine team in the 2024 Corporate Cycling Challenge on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Capitol District on 11th Street and Capitol Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is free for employees, and family members may participate for a $10 fee. Online registration<\/a>\u00a0is open through Aug. 16. Participants can register on the day of the event. Proceeds benefit the Eastern Nebraska Trails Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
