Two named physician advocates of the year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nebraska Medical Association recognized two UNMC faculty members as physician advocates of the year at its Aug. 16 NMA Physician Appreciation Luncheon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD, and Stephanie Hartman, MD, were named the 2024 Physician Advocates of the Year. According to the NMA, the awards recognize the crucial role the recipients play in enhancing the NMA\u2019s public policy priorities, encouraging colleagues to participate in NMA advocacy work and personally advocating for the well-being of physicians, patients and the communities in which they serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Anderson Berry is chief of the UNMC Division of Neonatology and vice chair of research for the Department of Pediatrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hartman is an assistant professor in the UNMC Division of General Internal Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Nicholas Bohannon, a May 2024 graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, was recognized as the 2024 NMA Student Advocate of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New directors named at UNMC College of Dentistry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard Williamson, DDS, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry, has been named director of global student experiences at the UNMC College of Dentistry. In this new role, Dr. Williamson will serve as the primary contact for international outreach programs. He will collaborate with UNMC on existing interdisciplinary outreach initiatives and work to develop additional program sites. Dr. Williamson joined the UNMC College of Dentistry in 2021 after 17 years in private practice and 20 years as a faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shayla Yoachim, PhD, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Oral Biology, has been named the director of student success and wellness at the UNMC College of Dentistry. In this new role, Dr. Yoachim will develop holistic strategies to ensure the overall well-being of students and serve as a liaison between faculty and administrators to address student needs. Dr. Yoachim joined the college in 2017. She currently serves as the course director for five courses and is actively engaged in educational research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
