{"id":115089,"date":"2024-09-18T14:22:36","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T19:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=115089"},"modified":"2024-12-27T14:54:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-27T20:54:29","slug":"trick-or-treat-event-offers-fun-accessible-outing-for-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/09\/18\/trick-or-treat-event-offers-fun-accessible-outing-for-families\/","title":{"rendered":"Trick-or-treat event offers fun, accessible outing for families"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Costumed kiddos and their families once again are invited to trick-or-treat at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MMI\u2019s seventh annual trick-or-treat event, slated for Sunday, Oct. 20, is open to individuals with disabilities and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur event removes barriers for families living with disabilities,\u201d said Jacqueline Hankins-Berry, administrative programs associate. \u201cIn our mission toward inclusion, this provides an accessible, fun and non-judgmental spot for families to trick-or-treat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hankins-Berry expects to have 30 stations for trick-or-treaters to visit, claiming treats and trinkets along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors can use the east entrance of the building, 6902 Pine St., for the event. Trick-or-treating will be offered across the first floor from 1 to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year\u2019s event drew more than 500 families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Keenan of the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications said his department has staffed a table at the event for the past four years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe MMI Halloween event is always a lot of fun,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to meet parents, see all the great costumes on the trick-or-treaters and work with our MMI colleagues and community partners to provide a fun and enjoyable day for the people
