Maggie Neujahr, manager of care coordination at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, was named Social Worker of the Year by the Nebraska Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recipients of the award are recognized for transformative efforts, innovative achievements and careers defined by service, integrity, competence and social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neujahr, who has been in the social work field for nearly 20 years, was surprised by the honor. It was made more special, she said, when she learned that two of her coworkers were behind her nomination for the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt means a lot to see other providers, people I\u2019ve worked with, say, \u2018Well received. Well deserved,\u2019\u201d Neujahr said. \u201cKnowing the work I do is appreciated on such a large level is amazing. I truly feel appreciated, and that\u2019s one of the best feelings you can have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neujahr said she wants to see MMI\u2019s Care Coordination Program continue to grow. It\u2019s clear, she said, that the need is there. A recent caregiver appreciation event drew more than 35 families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neujahr said her field of work can feel defeating at times, with success not always being apparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis makes me feel good about the work I do. Even little things make big differences,\u201d she said. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amy Nordness, PhD, MMI associate director, said in an all-staff email that she\u2019s thrilled to see Neujahr honored with the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
