WIN grant supports UNMC College of Nursing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women Investing in Nebraska announced a grant of $122,376 to the UNMC College of Nursing during the organization\u2019s annual awards ceremony Oct. 7 in Omaha. The grant was awarded to develop new training through the college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WIN membership is comprised of women in and outside of Nebraska who, through their collective giving, address issues of importance to Nebraskans. WIN members contributed personally to make the grants possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It operates in partnership with the University of Nebraska Foundation and the UNF Charitable Gift Fund to support women philanthropists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, Nebraska has no fellowships or academic programs offering emergency training for nurse practitioners. According to a survey by the UNMC College of Nursing, 22 of 23 responding health care facilities across the state have experienced provider shortages in their emergency room settings and utilized nurse practitioners to fill the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although nurse practitioners have filled this need, formal emergency nurse practitioner training will equip them to contribute at a much higher level. The WIN grant will support the development of the new training initiative and provide simulation equipment and learning resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am deeply honored to receive this grant from Women Investing in Nebraska, which will play a pivotal role in addressing a critical need for the state,\u201d said Haley Hays, clinical assistant professor in the UNMC College of Nursing-West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff. \u201cThis support is not just an investment in our academic institution, but also the future of Nebraska health care. It enables us to equip the next generation of emergency nurse practitioners with the specialized skills they need to provide high-quality care in critical situations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch and learn to explore \u2018language justice\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nebraska Medicine\u2019s Interpretive Services Department will host a language justice lunch-and-learn on Oct. 23, from noon-1:30 pm. in collaboration with the Community Language Cooperative<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community Language Cooperative\u2019s Rosa Guzman-Snyder and Indira Guzman will facilitate the seminar, which will focus on how the medical center can engage patients to ensure health care\u00a0accessibility to linguistically diverse communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event follows a Language Justice seminar held in September that Tierra Robinson, Nebraska Medicine director of adaptive learning and inclusive excellence, said was \u201ctruly eye opening and provided us with a tremendous amount of knowledge and clarity. This is valuable information that I hope to share across our campus community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nebraska HEALING unveils memorial quilt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In partnership with Native American nonprofit Bluebird Cultural Initiative, UNMC’s Nebraska HEALING Project unveiled its COVID quilt, memorializing 10 people from the urban Omaha Native American community who died from COVID-19. The unveiling came during the Joslyn Castle Indigenous Peoples’ Day event on Oct. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
