As a developmental biologist, I believe stem\/progenitor cells residing in different organs are the cells of origin for tumor formation. Quiescent cancer stem cells are resistant to radio-chemotherapeutics designed to target cell division. These cells are responsible for tumor recurrence, the key factor in treatment failure. My lab focuses on targeting cancer stem cells to design specific and persistent therapeutics for brain tumor patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How I became interested in cancer research:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and the second leading cause in the United States. I aim to unravel the mystery of tumor formation and pinpoint the Achilles\u2019 heel of brain tumors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PhD, University of Texas at Austin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professional Memberships:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>American Association for Cancer
