More work than expected is needed on the Lot 2 renovation project, and the original target completion deadline has shifted into a longer project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work began in late May with the Lot 2\/Green Parking garage renovation work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The multiphase project for the visitor and patient parking structure, located at 4420 Emile St. and connected to Durham Outpatient Center, initially was expected to be finished by the end of this year. However, additional renovations were discovered that need to be fixed to continue to extend the service life of the structure for the next 15 to 25 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOriginally, we anticipated about five months of work,\u201d said Chris Ehlers, project manager with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Facilities Management. \u201cNow we have uncovered the need for additional maintenance for Lot 2, which we will start in spring of 2025 once temperatures are adequate for new concrete to cure properly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new target completion date for Lot 2 renovations is summer 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current work being done will pause when temperatures become too cold for concrete work.\u00a0The work will resume when temperatures warm around the spring. During the winter pause, Lot 2 will have most of its parking spaces available for use for patient, visitor and valet parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When work starts again in the spring, it will be done in a phased approach so the parking structure can continue to be used, with an estimated 75% of the parking spaces remaining available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this project, doors from the parking structure into Durham Outpatient Center will remain accessible, and valet service in front of Durham Outpatient Center will remain available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Lot 2 is full, then patient and visitor overflow parking will be available on level B of Lot 50, which is immediately to the south of Lot 2. Additional ADA stalls will be located there, as well as valet parking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to overflow parking in Lot 50, some employees who park in that lot may have to park in Lot 17, if no other parking is available in the lot. Click here for the parking services website<\/a> to view the employee parking map. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe also will authorize employees to park in additional employee lots if both Lot 50 and 17 are at capacity,\u201d said Tim Faisetty, manager for UNMC Parking\/Transportation Services. \u201cWe know that this will pose challenges to some, and we encourage them to call or email us so we can help them find solutions that work. We thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding during this construction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
