Corrine Hanson, PhD, and Mariah Jackson, PhD, medical nutrition faculty in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, will serve on the nutrition and health science team for the Wheat Fiber for Rural Health and Wealth Roundtable, set for Nov. 7 in Lincoln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will bring together thought leaders from public health, agriculture, business and government to \u201cexplore innovative solutions at the intersection of agriculture and health,\u201d according to organizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day\u2019s discussion will center on the Coalition for Grain Fiber \u2013 Drs. Hanson and Jackson are members \u2013 which includes more than 70 scientists and practitioners across the globe working to fight chronic disease by increasing dietary fiber in non-GMO, commodity wheat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a group working to increase nutritional value of common foods, primarily fiber, to improve population health,\u201d Dr. Hanson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Nebraska, through its Nebraska Food for Health Center<\/a>, is among those presenting the roundtable, with the Nebraska Wheat Board and the Foundation for Innovation in Healthy Food<\/a>. University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, will kick off the conference with opening remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty will be among the presenters and session leaders. The University of Nebraska Foundation also will have a presence at the roundtable.
