Healing arts presenting special conversation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UNMC Healing Arts Program invites guests to a presentation titled “Artist Hands as Instrument,” featuring Dan Firestone, MD, an assistant professor with the UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, and Omaha artist Laurie Victor Kay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 20, with a conversation set for 4 p.m. and a 5 p.m. art viewing, tours of the Davis Global Center and reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be held at the Davis Global Center. Valet parking will be available on the south side of the building in Lot 36. Entrance to the lot is located on 41st Street north of Leavenworth Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LatinXcellence holding event today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The med center’s LatinXcellence employee resource group will hold an event today (Nov. 1) to celebrate D\u00eda de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. It will be from 2-4 p.m. at the Sorrell Center’s Alumni Commons on the second floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The employee resource group will serve free tamales, sweet bread and hot chocolate, while supplies last, and will set up an ofrenda, or altar, for viewing, along with trivia questions for a chance to win prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is open to UNMC faculty, staff and students and Nebraska Medicine colleagues. For more information on the event or the group, contact group President Karla Lynch or Vice President Melissa Hatch via email<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THRIVE walking mini challenges begin Monday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Healthy Living invites the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community to finish the year strong by joining THRIVE walking mini challenges. The event includes two three-week mini challenges: Nov. 4-22 and Dec. 2-20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants will receive a walking plan, stretching guide and invites to group stretching sessions. The Center for Healthy Living indoor walking track will be available to use during the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants who complete both mini challenges will be entered in a prize raffle. Twenty people will win a two-session personal training package at the Center for Healthy Living, and everyone else will win a Center for Healthy Living completion prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program is free and open to members of the med center community, which includes students and employees, as well as members of the Center for Healthy Living. Sign up online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
