Three local Native American cancer survivors will share their personal journeys with cancer during an event Nov. 12 titled \u201cHope and Healing: Native American Digital Cancer Stories & Conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, which will be available for in-person attendance and via Zoom, will be from 5-7:30 p.m. at the UNMC Maurer Center for Public Health, Room 3013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presentation marks November\u2019s Native American Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event centers on the power of storytelling and collaboration to address health disparities, particularly cancer care, in Native communities. These narratives aim to foster dialogue and understanding between health care professionals and the Omaha and Native communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariah Abney, a master of public health student at UNMC, is an organizer of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I hope this showcase is just the beginning of more initiatives that bring us all together \u2014 health care professionals, the Omaha and surrounding community, and our Native community,” Abney said. “By sharing these powerful stories, we not only gain a deeper connection but show that it can be done. Together, we can create a supportive environment that promotes healing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abney added, \u201cThis is a step toward building a supportive network where we learn from each other and demonstrate that collective action can lead to impactful solutions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
