Tanya Custer, PhD, director of distance education in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions Department of Allied Health Education, Research and Practice, has been named director of UNMC\u2019s Interprofessional Academy of Educators<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She will assume the role in the new year, succeeding Brian Boerner, MD, associate professor of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IAE includes more than 250 educators across all five UNMC campuses and six colleges, plus the University of Nebraska\u2019s Graduate College. Partners include Nebraska Medicine, Children’s Nebraska and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Custer has been an active member of the academy since her induction in 2016. She currently serves as co-chair of the IAE curricular design special interest group. She\u2019s earned multiple honors for innovation in teaching, including Impact in Education Visionary Leadership in Education<\/a> and Innovative Practice in Education<\/a> awards. Through her work with innovative, online programs, she has supported more than 250 health care professionals and educators in improving their skills in teaching, leadership and educational scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Custer\u2019s commitment to excellence in education and her deep understanding of the academy\u2019s mission make her the ideal choice to lead the IAE,\u201d said Jane Meza, PhD, interim vice chancellor for academic affairs. \u201cWe are confident that her vision and leadership will continue to elevate the academy\u2019s work advancing interprofessional education at UNMC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Custer added: \u201cI am excited to continue to build on the strong foundation of the IAE. As director, my goal is to continue to enhance the interprofessional culture at UNMC by promoting collaborative educational initiatives that leverage the strengths of each discipline. I strive to lead the IAE as a hub for educational innovation, where faculty, staff and students engage in meaningful dialogue, share best practices, develop cutting-edge teaching methodologies and promote continuous improvement and educational scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
