Service for others is the focus of the med center\u2019s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day program on Monday, Jan. 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by the UNMC Office of Campus Engagement and the Nebraska Medicine Outreach and Belonging Office, the event will be held in person in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center ground floor and virtually over zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free lunch will be provided by A Catered Affair to the first 85 in-person, registered attendees. Doors open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m and the program beginning at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s theme \u2013 \u201cService in Action: Strengthening Communities by Honoring the Legacy of Unity, Hope and Equality\u201d \u2013 was chosen to reflect the med center\u2019s commitment to excellent patient care, access and service in the community statewide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. King\u2019s quote \u201cLife\u2019s most persistent and urgent question is, \u2018What are you doing for others?\u2019” challenges people to reflect on their roles in creating positive change, and offers a reminder that service is essential to progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keynote speaker Christopher McCroy, executive director of 100 Black Men of Omaha Inc., will open the program. McCroy is a proud North Omaha native, passionate leader and community youth advocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fourth annual Unsung Hero Award recipients will be announced during the program. The Unsung Hero Award celebrates UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and Clarkson College colleagues who give back and serve others through volunteerism, service, outreach, mentorship or encouragement, in the workplace or community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program is open to campus colleagues, students and community members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
