Corey Hopkins, PhD, professor of pharmaceutical sciences and director of the UNMC Center for Drug Design and Innovation, has been elected academic vice chair of the American Chemical Society Division of Medicinal Chemistry (MEDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am very pleased to see Dr. Hopkins in this national leadership role,\u201d said Don Klepser, PhD, interim dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy. \u201cIt is a well-deserved honor and recognition. Corey has repeatedly demonstrated his leadership on campus and among his national peers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is truly an honor to be elected to this position in an organization with such a rich history,\u201d said Dr. Hopkins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This also gives the UNMC College of Pharmacy two seats on MEDI\u2019s executive committee. Paul Trippier, PhD, professor of pharmaceutical sciences and co-director of UNMC\u2019s T32 Training Program in Alzheimer\u2019s Disease and Related Dementias Drug Discovery, currently serves as executive committee secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving two faculty members on MEDI\u2019s executive committee is a testament to the amazing faculty we have in the college and how that is recognized by their peers,\u201d Dr. Klepser said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hopkins now is in line to move up to chair next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MEDI has about 5,500 members nationwide and covers all aspects of drug discovery, chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, according to ACS. Its founding goes back to 1909.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hopkins is a former UNMC Distinguished Scientist and was honored again with a 2024 Research Leadership Award.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
