UNMC recently profiled Marvin Stancil, MD, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, on its Instagram<\/a> (@iamunmc<\/a>) and Facebook<\/a> (@unmcedu<\/a>) accounts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Growing up in inner-city St. Louis, Missouri, during the 1960s and \u201970s, I witnessed my parents struggle \u2014 both financially and in their relationship \u2014 while raising five children. They were hard working, with my mother serving as a public-school teacher, but life was challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From an early age, I aspired to attend college and achieve financial stability. However, it wasn\u2019t until high school, after losing a childhood friend to leukemia, that I found my true calling. Her passing not only brought profound grief, but I also sensed that inadequate medical care played a role in her death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue medicine. To this day, that experience continues to drive me to provide the best care and show compassion to my patients and treat everyone with respect and kindness.”
