{"id":119528,"date":"2025-02-20T01:58:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T07:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=119528"},"modified":"2025-02-19T11:16:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T17:16:20","slug":"registration-open-for-walk-and-roll-for-disabilities-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/02\/20\/registration-open-for-walk-and-roll-for-disabilities-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration open for Walk and Roll for Disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Walkers and rollers are set to take over the top level of the Oak View Mall next month during the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities\u2019 21st annual Walk and Roll for Disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s event will be held March 2 at the mall, located at 3001 S. 144th St. in Omaha. Money raised at the event goes toward adult programming at the Munroe-Meyer Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe event is a great opportunity for families to come together and have a fun time, see old friends, make some new friends and help raise funds for adult programs through the MMI Recreational Therapy Department,\u201d said Mary McHale, president of the foundation. \u201cIt gives the rec therapy staff a chance to see families in a different setting also.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funds raised at the event have supported MMI\u2019s yoga club, cooking club and other recreational activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McHale said they hope to bring in about $40,000 through this year\u2019s event. Past events have drawn more than 300 attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Walk and Roll starts at 9 a.m. with a light breakfast as well as face painting, clowns and a photo booth. Attendees also can visit with members of the \u201cStar Wars\u201d-themed Imperial 80th Squad and the Omaha Storm Chasers mascot. At about 10 a.m., attendees will hear from honorary advocates Ethan Falk and the family of Hayden Sommer. Then the group will start a lap around the mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration, which is open now, costs $35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information or to register, visit <a
