{"id":120044,"date":"2025-03-05T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T07:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=120044"},"modified":"2025-03-04T14:01:37","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T20:01:37","slug":"new-faculty-spotlight-arash-ronaghy-md-phd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/05\/new-faculty-spotlight-arash-ronaghy-md-phd\/","title":{"rendered":"New faculty spotlight: Arash Ronaghy, MD, PhD"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Arash Ronaghy, MD, PhD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name: <\/strong>Arash Ronaghy, MD, PhD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Title and department at UNMC: <\/strong>Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hometown: <\/strong>San Diego, California<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research\/professional interests:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnosis of hematologic neoplasms, both leukemias and lymphomas, and the use of molecular methods to improve classification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How I fell in love with hematologic neoplasms:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a second-year pathology resident, I had the opportunity to work with a hematopathologist at Northwell Health on a case involving Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus\/human herpes virus 8 associated with lymphoproliferative disorders. It was a rare case. We decided to write it up as a case report. Learning about this case and learning from and interacting with the hematopathology faculty was very enjoyable. I knew then that I wanted to be a hematopathologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Molecular genetics pathology fellowship, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hematopathology fellowship, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomic and clinical pathology residency, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York City<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MD, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD in immunology, University of Utrecht Medical Center, the Netherlands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Memberships:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Texas Medical Association<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nebraska Medical Association<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Three things people may not know about me:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two friends and I bicycled with camping gear from Amsterdam to Rome for 30 days \u2014 from the Netherlands to Belgium, Luxembourg, traversed south along the border of France and Germany, to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, then up the Swiss alps, and down the Italian Alps to Milan, Florence and finally met friends in Rome. I will never forget the kind people I met along the way, the beautiful landscapes and architecture, wonderful food and diverse cultures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I biked alone from Seattle to San Diego over 14 days, going south on Highway 1. Along the way, I met and bicycled with the University of Oregon cycling team. I always will remember the joy of biking through Redwood National Park, the surprise of an U.S. Abrams tank stopping on the road to give me the right of way as I biked through the Camp Pendleton military base in Oceanside, California, and going by the San Onofre nuclear power plant before reaching San Diego. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I received a black belt in Korean martial arts at 14.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"display: none;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" title=\"wmeZYYxt  C sRPt \">wmeZYYxt  C sRPt
