As someone who had worn glasses since she was 3 years old and often struggled with contacts, Courtney Burger was seeking a different option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ophthalmic assistant didn\u2019t have to go far to find that option, as she found one right where she works \u2013 the Truhlsen Eye Institute (TEI), where she was the first person to enroll in a trial intended for patients undergoing LASIK surgery to correct hyperopia (farsightedness) and hyperopic astigmatism.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I joined the refractive surgery team, I got to see how the benefits of LASIK and other laser vision correction procedures could help people with all types of refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism,\u201d said Burger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ronald Krueger, MD<\/a>, director of TEI, performed this first research procedure correcting farsightedness in Nebraska using the Teneo\u2122 317 model 2 laser. The trial is designed to see if the laser is as safe and effective as currently approved devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burger worked closely with Dr. Krueger to ensure she understood what to expect immediately after her procedure and in the following weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the trial<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Krueger and Brian Armstrong, MD<\/a>, are enrolling adults aged 22 and older with the goal of evaluating the safety and effectiveness of vision correction surgery (LASIK) on this laser. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
