Dr. Santamaria named Advancing Physician Leaders fellow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juan Santamaria, MD, has been selected as a member of the 2025 National Hispanic Medical Association Advancing Physician Leaders Fellowship. The NHMA Advancing Physician Leaders Fellowship, formerly the Leadership Fellowship Program, was launched in 1999 to support Hispanic physicians in health policy and academia. It aims to enhance leadership skills and increase representation in governmental, academic and institutional executive roles. Dr. Santamaria will attend the annual conference in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Santamaria is well-deserving of this recognition, as he has demonstrated leadership in multiple roles with UNMC and the community,\u201d said Nada Fadul, MD, associate dean for faculty affairs in the UNMC College of Medicine. \u201cIn addition to advancing his leadership skills, the NHMA fellowship will deepen his knowledge of health policy and advocacy for improved health access to breast cancer care in Nebraska.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Santamaria is an associate professor in the UNMC Department of Surgery-Division of Surgical Oncology. He also is the assistant director for clinical integration, community outreach and engagement office at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, the co-founder of the center\u2019s Breast Health Navigation Program and a surgical oncologist at Nebraska Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Register to attend Brain Tumor Mini Summit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Child Health Research Institute and the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will host the Brain Tumor Mini Summit on Tuesday, March 11, from noon to 4 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will bring together members of the Brain Tumor Working Group<\/a> and the Nebraska Children’s Brain Tumor Collaborative<\/a> to facilitate 15-minute discussions from both the pediatric and adult portfolios highlighting the diverse research on brain tumors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amar Gajjar, MD<\/a>, a Scott and Tracie Hamilton Endowed Chair in brain tumor research at St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital, will deliver a grand rounds talk, \u201cMedulloblastoma \u2013 A compendium of Four Molecular Distinct Diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit, located at Ground Level 12101 at UNMC\u2019s Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, is free and open to all. Lunch and snacks will be provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concrete work to cause temporary, partial closures along 41st<\/sup> Street<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crews from Kiewit Corporation are continuing to do concrete work that impacts the areas of 41st and 42nd streets. During the next couple of weeks, Kiewit will be working in the following areas, resulting in temporary street closures and lane restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
