{"id":120449,"date":"2025-03-19T02:02:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T07:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=120449"},"modified":"2025-03-18T15:01:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T20:01:03","slug":"improving-drug-treatment-researcher-takes-on-complex-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/03\/19\/improving-drug-treatment-researcher-takes-on-complex-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving drug treatment: Researcher takes on complex challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The National Strategic Research Institute at the University of Nebraska recently profiled UNMC&#8217;s DJ Murry, PharmD, a professor in the UNMC Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and a fellow with the NSRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the NSRI, leading scientists deliver innovative national security research, technology, product and strategy development, training and exercises, and subject matter expertise to the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies. One of only 15 DOD-designated University Affiliated Research Centers in the country, NSRI is sponsored by U.S. Strategic Command and works to ensure the United States\u2019 safety and preparedness against increasingly sophisticated threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the NSRI profile: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>As a leading researcher in pharmacy and cancer drug therapy, Dr. DJ Murry applies a lifetime of nuanced learning and experience to treating and improving cancer care. His efforts to reduce the harmful effects of treatments and personalized care have already improved the lives of innumerable patients.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>It\u2019s a difficult, complicated field \u2014 but Dr. Murry is uniquely suited to tackle it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also describes Dr. Murry&#8217;s research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dr. Murry has contributed to several NSRI-facilitated projects, including the&nbsp;development of prophylactics for acute radiation syndrome, an active project that leverages his deep expertise in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, bioanalytical method development, metabolite identification and drug development.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Through Dr. Murry\u2019s leadership, the project has made substantial progress toward completing the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic testing on multiple candidate compounds. The research team is continuing to test candidate compounds and gather the required data needed for evaluation and approval for use by the Food and Drug Administration.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
