Growing up, I had a unique perspective on health care as my mother is a physician&#8217;s assistant and my father has post-polio syndrome. Attending to the needs of my handicapped father has prepared me for a career of service, and medicine is the perfect field to live this out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What made you choose anesthesiology?<\/strong> I chose anesthesiology because I love the teamwork of the OR. As a former offensive lineman, I identify with the important yet understated role that the anesthesiologist plays. I also enjoy the unique patient interactions that anesthesia provides as you must earn the patient&#8217;s trust moments before they undergo something as stressful as surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List three accomplishments you are proud of:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My family, which includes my two beautiful daughters and my incredible wife.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Starting on a Division I football team, while graduating with my undergraduate degree in three years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being able to give back to my community as a volunteer wrestling coach and youth group leader while I was in medical school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List three things about you that others may not know:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My first snaps as a collegiate center were to NFL MVP Josh Allen.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I love to cook, and I am always looking to expand my culinary horizons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I am an avid outdoorsman and love to hike, fish and hunt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patrick Arnold, MD, is a new resident physician with the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.
