{"id":121717,"date":"2025-05-13T09:21:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T14:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=121717"},"modified":"2025-05-13T09:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T14:21:14","slug":"college-well-represented-at-annual-faculty-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/05\/13\/college-well-represented-at-annual-faculty-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"College well represented at Annual Faculty Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The UNMC College of Medicine was well-represented at this year\u2019s annual faculty awards, with medical faculty taking five of the seven awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shantaram Joshi, PhD,<\/strong> professor in the UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy, received the Spirit of Community Service Award, which recognizes faculty members who have used expertise, resources, talent and time outside their UNMC duties to provide community service. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/15\/annual-faculty-awards-shantharam-joshi-phd\/\">See more<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scot Ouellette, PhD,<\/strong> professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, received the Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Graduate Students Award, which recognizes faculty who exemplify excellence in the mentoring of graduate students at UNMC. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/08\/annual-faculty-awards-scot-ouellette-phd\/\">See more<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pooneh Bagher, PhD,<\/strong> associate professor in the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology, received the Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Junior Faculty Award, which recognizes faculty who exemplify excellence in the mentoring of junior faculty at UNMC. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/09\/annual-faculty-awards-pooneh-bagher-phd\/\">See more<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Apar Kishor Ganti, MD<\/strong>, professor in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine-Division of Oncology\/Hematology, also received the Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Junior Faculty Award. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/10\/annual-faculty-awards-apar-kishor-ganti-md\/\">See more<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Geoffrey Talmon, MD,<\/strong> professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, received the Outstanding Teacher Award, which recognizes faculty who exemplify excellence as a director of learning, advisor of students, facilitator of human relations and\/or promoter of the improvement of educational quality at UNMC. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/11\/annual-faculty-awards-geoffrey-talmon-md\/\">See more<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was exciting to see so many of our faculty recognized for their teaching, mentoring and outreach efforts,\u201d said Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine. \u201cThe entire college congratulates them on this wonderful recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe also congratulate Windy Alonso, PhD, from the UNMC College of Nursing, and Sean Avedissian, PharmD, PhD, from the UNMC College of Pharmacy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEducation is at the heart of what we do at the UNMC College of Medicine,\u201d Dr. Britigan said. \u201cIt is gratifying to see others recognizing the commitment and passion of our faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards were bestowed at the annual faculty meeting on April 16. UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, also gave his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/04\/18\/dr-davies-offers-confidence-that-unmc-will-traverse-challenges\/\">annual address to the faculty senate<\/a> at
