The UNMC Healing Arts Program will host an artist talk and gallery reception with author Karen Duncan and artist Joseph Broghammer, whose work is featured in the exhibition Chica at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, on June 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist talk will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the Gail and Mike Yanney Conference Center on the ground floor of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. The gallery viewing and a reception will follow in the main dining room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChica\u201d is a little grey dog\u2019s story about her fortuitous rescue from a historic town in eastern Mexico. Omaha artist Joseph Broghammer was commissioned in 2017 to produce a series of drawings to illustrate the children\u2019s book\u00a0\u201cChica,\u201d by arts collector and patron Karen Duncan of Lincoln, Nebraska. The book chronicles the early life, budding friendship and subsequent adoption of Duncan\u2019s dog, Chica, starting in El Tajin, Mexico and ending with preparations for a new life in Lincoln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBroghammer will talk about his authentic drawing style and approach to illustrating this book,\u201d said Colleen Heavican Cass, healing arts curator. \u201cDuncan will share stories of her beloved dog Chica and discuss her love of art and commitment to collecting contemporary art.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChica\u201d books will be available for purchase at the event, and there will be a book signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChica\u201d is on view at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center during regular visiting hours, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., through June 13, 2025. Admission is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
