Gold, MD, sent this message to University of Nebraska faculty and staff on Friday, Aug. 8, announcing a voluntary separation incentive program.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dear faculty and staff,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of our ongoing efforts to position the University of Nebraska for long-term strength and financial sustainability, I am writing to share that we are offering a Voluntary Separation Incentive Program (VSIP) to eligible tenured faculty across each of our campuses this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are grateful for the dedication and service that all of our faculty and staff bring to the university\u2019s mission every day. While the VSIP is available only to qualifying faculty members, the program reflects a broader commitment to thoughtful planning and stewardship \u2014 work that benefits from the talent and contributions of our entire university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We believe it is both appropriate and timely to offer a flexible retirement option to our most senior faculty, many of whom have given decades of service to the university and played a significant role in advancing the university\u2019s mission. We understand from campuswide input that some faculty may be contemplating retirement; the VSIP offers a meaningful pathway for those individuals, while also providing the university with the opportunity to strategically realign resources by reinvesting in key priorities and preparing for future uncertainties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for the VSIP will be accepted through Sept. 30, 2025. An FAQ with additional information, including timing, finances and eligibility criteria, is available <a href=\"https:\/\/nebraska.edu\/offices-policies\/business-finance\/human-resources\/2025-vsip\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. Application materials will be shared with eligible faculty soon; review of VSIP applications will occur on an individual basis and will be approved by the applicant\u2019s campus chancellor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for your continued service to the University of Nebraska and for your commitment to our mission.
