The photo was taken with a drone by licensed drone operator Kiley Cruse, UNMC&#8217;s chief photographer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Center for Healthy Living open house<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNMC Center for Healthy Living will hold an open house so the UNMC campus community at Omaha can explore the benefits of becoming a member. The event will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Guided tours<\/strong><br>Staff members will provide guided tours of the facilities, including the cardio room, weight room, fitness classrooms and gymnasium. Groups and individuals are welcome. Tours will be available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day and last approximately 20 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ask a trainer<\/strong><br>Ask a trainer fitness-related questions, inquire about services or learn more about the center\u2019s equipment. Opportunities will be available daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:cfhlfitness@unmc.edu\">by email<\/a> for those unable to attend in person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Free popcorn and coffee bar<\/strong><br>Grab free popcorn at the facility between&nbsp;11 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. On Wednesday, Sept. 17, pick up a free coffee at the coffee bar between 7 a.m. and noon, featuring a variety of syrups and milks (while supplies last).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Try a fitness class for free<\/strong><br>The fall lineup of classes has begun, and visitors can take a free fitness class during the open house. Stop by the front desk to sign up for a class. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/cfhl\/membership\/fitness-classes.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"A list of offerings and a description of each class, opens in a new window\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A list of offerings and a description of each class<\/a> can be found on the Center for Healthy Living website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-Gayle Kerr-McFadden, UNMC Division of Student Success<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pediatric cancer research symposium highlights hematological malignancies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Families of pediatric cancer patients, government representatives, philanthropic groups, health care professionals and researchers came together Aug. 20 at the CHRI Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium. The Child Health Research Institute and Fred &amp; Pamela Buffett Cancer Center sponsored the event, which was planned by members of the Pediatric Cancer Research Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hematological malignancies were the focus of this year&#8217;s symposium, and the day featured a number of speakers presenting on the topic, including keynote speaker Paul Liu, MD, PhD, senior investigator, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don Coulter, MD, professor in the UNMC Division of Hematology and Oncology, and director of the Pediatric Cancer Research Group, provided an opening statement and hosted the leadership panel that included Chanda Chac\u00f3n, Children&#8217;s Nebraska president and CEO; Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, president of University of Nebraska System; and Danielle Conrad, Nebraska state senator. The panel members discussed the current research environment, the need for partnership and collaboration to accomplish large goals, and the challenge to support patient and families across the state and region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Coulter also led the day&#8217;s philanthropic panel with featured representatives from Angels Among Us, Leukemia &amp; Lymphoma Society, RUNX1 Research Program and Team Jack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-Chuck Koster, Child Health Research Institute<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sing with the Nebraska Medical Choir<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nebraska Medical Choir is starting its fall concert season, and is looking for members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The choir is open to all colleagues, faculty, staff and students along with their family and friends.&nbsp;It\u2019s a great way to connect with others, have fun and make beautiful music together. No audition is required, membership is free, and singers of every level of experience are welcome. (Some music background is helpful, but not necessary.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rehearsals:<\/strong> Mondays, 6-7 p.m. Doors open at 5:45
