UNMC\u2019s Rebekah Gundry, PhD, has been nominated by the American Heart Association as a 2025 American Heart Association Leader of Impact for the Omaha area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gundry is the director of the UNMC Center for Heart and Vascular Research, the Stokes-Shackelford Professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is principal investigator of a $11.8 million National Institutes of Health award to create a Center of Biomedical Research Excellence focused on finding answers for heart and vascular diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leaders of Impact campaign shines a spotlight on heart health, with heart disease ranking as the No. 1 cause of death worldwide and stroke as the second-leading cause. Local American Heart Association chapters are running a seven-week campaign, which started Sept. 18, to raise funds to support research and advocate for heart health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the campaign, which concludes Nov. 5, one nominee will be named the local Leaders of Impact winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
