{"id":126440,"date":"2025-10-08T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=126440"},"modified":"2025-10-07T13:34:30","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T18:34:30","slug":"new-research-grant-award-winners-are-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/10\/08\/new-research-grant-award-winners-are-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"New Research Grant Award winners are announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>UNMC\u2019s Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology has announced five recipients of Research Grant Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department created the award program in 2024 for residents and fellows to provide up to $10,000 funding for high-quality research projects leading to publications by departmental clinical trainees for whom other funding sources are not available. The aim of this program is to advance the experience and mentorship in clinical and translational research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All residents and fellows enrolled in our accredited program with support of a faculty mentor are eligible to apply for this award, with only one project per applicant per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new awardees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ahmed Ahmed<\/strong>, MBBCh, Hematopathology fellow. Study title:\u00a0AI-Based Prediction of TP53 Immunohistochemical Expression from H&amp;E Images in Myeloid Neoplasms. Mentor faculty is Dr. John Cannatella.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marika Forsythe<\/strong>, MD, Molecular Genetic Pathology fellow. Study title: Molecular Classification of Aggressive Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumors\u00a0(PitNETs). Mentor faculty is Dr. Allison Cushman-Vokoun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rebecca Manzo<\/strong>, DO, PGY-3. Study title: Clinicopathologic and Molecular Characterization of Conjunctival Melanoma in a Multi-Institutional Study. Mentor faculty is Dr. Dinesh Pradhan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Holly Mitzel<\/strong>, MD, PGY-2. Study title: Exploration of the Role of Aberrant T-lymphocytes in\u00a0Lymphocyte Rich\u00a0Thymomas and Correlation with Clinical Outcomes. Mentor faculty is Dr. Pranav Renavikar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phassawan\u00a0Rungsiprakarn<\/strong>, MD, Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellow. Study title: Studies of LHX2 as the partner for immunoglobulin gene rearrangement in chronic myeloid leukemia.
