UNMC Graduate Studies welcomed more than160 new students at its annual matriculation ceremony Aug. 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou have come here from six continents,\u201d said David Crouse, PhD, professor emeritus, who helped welcome the new students. \u201cAnd there are only seven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Crouse was among a handful of speakers who offered advice to the incoming cohort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are now a member of a supportive and collaborative community at UNMC,\u201d said Karen Gould, PhD, interim executive associate dean for graduate studies, who told the new students that graduate school will be \u201ca truly transformative journey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moorthy Ponnusamy, PhD, professor and co-director of the biochemistry and molecular biology graduate program, gave the keynote address as is traditional as the 2025 the Graduate Student Association\u2019s Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Graduate Students Award honoree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNMC Graduate Studies kicked off the ceremony by honoring returning graduate students Shabnam Arash, Kirtana Arikath and Amaka Modebelu with Derry-Crouse Emerging Leader awards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
