{"id":128096,"date":"2025-12-15T09:45:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=128096"},"modified":"2025-12-15T09:45:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:45:05","slug":"katie-hutchins-md-elected-agc-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/12\/15\/katie-hutchins-md-elected-agc-governor\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie Hutchins, MD, elected ACG governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Katie Hutchins, MD, assistant professor in the UNMC Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, began her term as American College of Gastroenterology governor for Nebraska at the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governors are elected annually by members and fellows in their respective geographical areas. They serve a term of three years and are responsible for overseeing the governance and strategic direction of the ACG. Governors play a crucial role in shaping ACG\u2019s policies and initiatives, ensuring that the organization remains aligned with the needs of gastroenterologists and their patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of Dr. Hutchins\u2019s colleagues also attended the event, which brings together GI physicians from around the world and delivers the latest clinical information on timely topics in gastroenterology and hepatology. Shahbaz Malik, MD, assistant professor in the division, and Bilal Niazi, MD, second-year gastroenterology fellow, presented workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fourteen faculty, fellows and residents presented 32 posters, and several were recognized with awards by the ACG. Presenters included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nurlan Aliyev, MD, clinical research project manager, ACG Outstanding Poster Presenter for \u201cEfficacy and safety of gel immersion in EMR and ESD: a systemic review and meta-analysis\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jason Barbaretta, ACG Outstanding Poster Presenter for \u201cTargeted Liver Fibrosis Assessment in Patients with Metabolic Dysfunction: Surveying the Front Line\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anasua Deb, MD, PhD, gastroenterology fellow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jalpa Devi, MBBS, assistant professor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ismail Elkhattib, MD, transplant hepatology fellow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peak Chaisidhivej, MD, third-year gastroenterology fellow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bilal Niazi, MD, ACG Outstanding Poster Presenter for \u201cCDH1-Associated
