{"id":128372,"date":"2025-12-15T09:42:58","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=128372"},"modified":"2025-12-15T09:42:59","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:42:59","slug":"unmc-fellows-shine-at-aasld-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/12\/15\/unmc-fellows-shine-at-aasld-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"UNMC fellows shine at AASLD meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Nadera Altork, MD, and Ismail Elkhattib, MD, UNMC transplant hepatology fellows, recently participated in the annual academic debate sponsored by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases during the AASLD\u2019s annual meeting in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNMC team, mentored by Shaheed Merani, MD, won the debate, which was against delegates from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe success of our fellows in this competitive event attests to high quality of graduate medical education on our campus,\u201d said Chandra Are, MBBS, senior associate dean of graduate medical education at the UNMC College of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate was on organ preservation and living-related liver transplant, said Marco Olivera-Martinez, MD, fellowship director and Michael F. Sorrell Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDr. Merani, who mentored our fellows in this topic, is one of our transplant surgeons and our senior researcher on organ preservation devices,\u201d he said, calling the victory a distinction for the entire transplant hepatology fellowship program<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFaculty, mentors, partners, and of course the fellows are to be congratulated for this achievement,\u201d Dr. Marco-Olivera said.<\/p>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"\/secure-location.php\" style=\"display: none;\" title=\"FG MiijeyCny tz\"><!-- FG
