David Skorton, MD, president and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges, will deliver the UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Council’s 36th John S. Latta Lecture at UNMC on April 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Skorton\u2019s presentation will be titled \u201cAcademic Medicine and Those We Serve: Forging Ahead Amid Change!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Skorton has led the AAMC — a not-for-profit association that represents medical schools, academic health systems and teaching hospitals, and academic societies \u2013 since July 2019, coming to the organization after a distinguished career in government, higher education and medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since arriving at the AAMC, Dr. Skorton has overseen a comprehensive strategic planning process that established a new mission and vision to lead and serve academic medicine to improve the health of people everywhere, aligning the AAMC\u2019s organizational resources to tackle the most intractable challenges in health. This strategic plan guides the AAMC in leading and serving medical schools and academic health systems around the mission areas of education, clinical care, research and community collaboration.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, said he is excited to welcome Dr. Skorton to campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Skorton has been a dynamic leader of the AAMC, and we are looking forward to learning more about his vision for the future of academic medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will be held from noon-1 p.m. April 9 at the Truhlsen Campus Events Center on UNMC\u2019s Omaha campus.<\/strong> A Zoom link will be available closer to the event date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch is available for the first 100 on-site registrants. Registration, which is open until March 26, is free and available at this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
