Chandra Are, MBBS, Jerald L. and Carolynn J. Varner Professor of Surgical Oncology and Global Health in the UNMC Division of Surgical Oncology, Department of Surgery, and senior associate dean of graduate medical education, has been appointed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to the ACGME Institutional Review Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Are called his selection an honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cServing on the committee will give me the privilege to be involved in shaping the future of graduate medical education for our nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The institutional review committee reviews and accredits institutions that sponsor graduate medical education programs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, congratulated Dr. Are on the appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ACGME plays an essential role in ensuring that the standards for graduate medical education across the country allow institutions such as UNMC and Nebraska Medicine to prepare physicians to deliver safe, high-quality medical care,\u201d he said. \u201cDr. Are will be a great benefit to them in this mission, and his selection is a testament not only to himself, but to the college and the Office of Graduate Medical Education, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/a><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
