Jezrelle \u201cJezzy\u201d Munyiri is a two-time participant in the mentorship program Farm Camp \u2013 the frontier area rural mental health camp and mentorship program. It\u2019s a project developed by Western Nebraska Behavioral Health and funded in part by the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program seeks to identify and mentor rural students who are interested in future careers in behavioral health. Munyiri directed the funding to BHECN and Farm Camp through her participation in the foundation\u2019s Changemakers Program, which allows Panhandle youth to select impactful organizations to receive grant support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She chose to direct foundation funds to BHECN and Farm Camp because she wants others to have the same opportunities she had and because she hopes to help raise awareness about behavioral health issues and treatments in her area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said Marley Doyle, MD, director of BHECN, \u201cOur staff was floored by Jezzy\u2019s generosity and we were thrilled to hear she had such a powerful experience at Farm Camp,\u201d Dr. Doyle said. \u201cStories like this are quite literally the reason we do the work we do at BHECN.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-Chuck Brown, Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fostering the Future partners with Child Saving Institute<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leadership members of&nbsp;the student-led group&nbsp;Fostering&nbsp;the Future recently partnered with the Child Saving Institute to host a hands-on health care learning experience for children and teens in Omaha.&nbsp;Students from the UNMC College of Nursing and UNMC College of Medicine designed and led interactive activities tailored to each age group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities focused on health care career awareness, germ education using UV light and a mock \u201csurgery\u201d to learn about organs. Students also\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0the difference between handwashing and hand sanitizer, and children wore kid-sized gowns, masks and gloves to better understand the surgical environment. With a teen group, UNMC students introduced practical skills such as bleeding control, tourniquet application, checking vital signs and team-based (basketball) health trivia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fostering the Future&#8217;s goal is to introduce youth to&nbsp;different aspects&nbsp;of health care in accessible and engaging ways. The initiative also reflects the mission of the UNMC Office of Community Engagement&nbsp;to build meaningful partnerships and expand access to educational pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>-Andrea Subitoni
