{"id":131023,"date":"2026-04-06T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T06:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=131023"},"modified":"2026-04-03T12:49:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T17:49:46","slug":"executive-sustainability-council-enters-its-next-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/04\/06\/executive-sustainability-council-enters-its-next-phase\/","title":{"rendered":"Executive Sustainability Council enters its next phase"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>UNMC and Nebraska Medicine have reorganized the institution\u2019s Executive Sustainability Council, marking a new phase of sustainability leadership at the med center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group of senior leaders will help guide strategy, prioritize initiatives and enhance accountability across both organizations on issues related to sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Ash, MD, CEO of Nebraska Medicine, said, \u201cOur council will focus on advancing sustainability initiatives, setting clear priorities and strengthening partnerships across Nebraska Medicine and UNMC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD: \u201cSustainability supports our shared mission to improve the health of Nebraska and the world. This council aligns our education, research, clinical and operational efforts around solutions that strengthen environmental responsibility and support health for the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Executive Sustainability Council, an advisory group to the med center leadership, was established in 2016 to ensure achievement of the system\u2019s sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Davies and Dr. Ash selected the membership for their leadership roles and ability to advance sustainability initiatives across the enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Executive Sustainability Council members are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-chairs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nebraska Medicine chief operating officer, currently Kyle Skiermont, PharmD.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNMC and Nebraska Medicine associate vice president of capital projects, currently Jen Bartholomew.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dean of the UNMC College of Public Health, currently Ali S. Khan, MD, MPH.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Members<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>University of Nebraska chief operating officer, currently Jon Watts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nebraska Medicine\u2019s vice president of finance, currently Bryce Brackle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNMC vice chancellor for research, currently Ken Bayles, PhD.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNMC\u2019s associate vice
