{"id":131589,"date":"2026-04-27T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T06:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=131589"},"modified":"2026-04-24T14:38:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T19:38:13","slug":"center-for-continuing-education-offering-expanded-course-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/04\/27\/center-for-continuing-education-offering-expanded-course-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Center for Continuing Education offering expanded course schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>The UNMC Center for Continuing Education \u2013 a recognized American Heart Association Training Center \u2013 will start offering evening and weekend courses for one of its core heart association training programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting in May, the Center for Continuing Education will offer an expanded schedule for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saturday classes: The first Saturday of each month at 9 a.m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evening classes: The third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The center will be offering its Basic Life Support (BLS) course during the Tuesday evening and Saturday times. BLS is a nationally recognized program for health care professionals to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use an automated external defibrillator and relieve choking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a training center, it\u2019s our responsibility to remove barriers to essential, life\u2011saving education,\u201d said Kerri Gilson, executive director of the UNMC Center for Continuing Education. \u201cExpanding our course availability allows us to better align with the realities of today\u2019s health care workforce and support learners in staying current amid demanding schedules.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for Continuing Education offers certified EMS and trauma courses with flexible learning formats, including in-person and blended learning options, that are led by the center\u2019s instructors, who are expert field providers and clinicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other AHA courses offered by the center are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blended courses offering AHA&nbsp;eLearning and skills testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>American Heart Association Instructor Course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Courses are offered regularly and support both initial certification and renewal.
