{"id":131926,"date":"2026-05-06T12:01:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T17:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=131926"},"modified":"2026-05-06T15:57:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T20:57:20","slug":"register-for-the-inaugural-hypertension-in-obstetrics-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/05\/06\/register-for-the-inaugural-hypertension-in-obstetrics-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Register for the inaugural hypertension in obstetrics symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p>Registration now open for the inaugural Hypertension in Obstetrics: Prevention &amp; Education \u2013 NEbraska (HOPE-NE) Symposium<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inaugural \u201cHypertension in Obstetrics: Prevention &amp; Education \u2013 NEbraska (HOPE-NE) Symposium\u201d will be held in-person on Wednesday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UNMC\u2019s Truhlsen Campus Events Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This symposium will explore hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, emphasizing the role of biomarkers in detecting, stratifying risk for and managing preeclampsia toward the goal of improving maternal health outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cmetracker.net\/UNMCCE\/Publisher?page=pubOpen#\/EventID\/74289\/\">Registration is open for the event at this link<\/a>. The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 13. For more information, <a href=\"https:\/\/cmetracker.net\/UNMCCE\/Publisher?page=pubOpen#\/EventID\/74289\/\">see the event webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium is sponsored by the Olson Center for Women\u2019s Health, UNMC College of Medicine Center for Continuing Education and UNMC College of Nursing Continuing interProfessional Development and Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presentations will cover:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The development and implementation of the STAMPP\u2011HTN postpartum hypertension program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rural health perspectives in management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hands\u2011on nursing training for clinical care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cardiac dysfunction during preeclampsia and the peripartum period.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic science presentations that explore targeted placental drug delivery, biomarker origins and emerging therapeutics for preeclampsia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, will join the inaugural symposium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The keynote presenter, Ananth Karumanchi, MD of Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles, will give a virtual presentation on the \u201cMechanisms of Preeclampsia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In-person presentations by pregnancy and preeclampsia experts include: Sarosh Rana, MD, MPH; Rebecca Rimsza, MD; Neil Hamill, MD; Lynda Harris, PhD; Augustine Rajakumar, PhD; and Adrian Wiegman, PhD, all of the UNMC Dept&nbsp;of&nbsp;Obstetrics and Gynecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional presentations will be provided by&nbsp;Ann Anderson Berry, MD, PhD, from the UNMC Child Health Research Institute and UNMC Department of&nbsp;Pediatrics; Melissa&nbsp;Buman, EdD, and Karen Gesch, from Nebraska Medicine Women and Infant\u2019s&nbsp;Services; Christina&nbsp;Dunbar Matos, DO, from&nbsp;the&nbsp;UNMC Division of Cardiovascular&nbsp;Medicine; and&nbsp;Sajid Shahil, MD, from&nbsp;the&nbsp;UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/obgyn\/about-us\/events\/hope-ne-symposium\/hope-ne-symposium-2026-agenda.html\">View the agenda at this link.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration costs $30 but is free for students and trainees.
