Two events in May will promote Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At noon today (May 19) in the Davis Global Center Atrium, there will be a discussion on the topic, \u201cIs AI the Answer? What is the Question?\u201d Ryan Lee, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Radiology and Howard B. Hunt Centennial Professor, will give the keynote address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening remarks will be made by Dele Davies, MD, UNMC interim chancellor, and Michael Ash, MD, CEO of Nebraska Medicine. Panelists for the discussion include: Zijun Lou, PhD, of the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Ruirui Liu, PhD, assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Radiation Oncology; and Caroline Ng, PhD, associate professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moderators will be Lei Yu, MD, assistant professor in the UNMC Department of Radiology, and Sarah Uhm, a UNMC MD\/PhD student and president of the UNMC AAPI Student Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will be available on Zoom<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, May 26, the public is invited to a showing of \u201cSilent War,\u201d a 2025 documentary by Changfu Chang, PhD, that explores the mental health crisis and intergenerational trauma within Asian American communities. The movie begins at 6:30 p.m. at Ruth Sokolof Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A panel discussion will follow the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel’s moderators are Dr. Yu and Jennifer Sparrock, psychiatric emergency services clinic manager. Panelists include Howard Liu, MD, chair of the UNMC Department of Psychiatry, Venkata Kolli, Lucille Liu and Samie Yang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film event is sponsored by the UNMC Department of Psychiatry, the AAPI Student Association AAPI Employee Resource Group and the WISE Mind Employee Resource Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
