{"id":132961,"date":"2026-06-16T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=132961"},"modified":"2026-06-15T14:14:01","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:14:01","slug":"house-officers-shine-at-eighth-annual-gme-research-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/06\/16\/house-officers-shine-at-eighth-annual-gme-research-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"House officers shine at GME Research Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC residents and fellows displayed research posters and gave oral presentations at the eighth annual Graduate Medical Education Research Symposium, held May 12 in the Truhlsen Events Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.House officers presented their research in areas such as clinical outcomes, basic science, education, business, health policy, and humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/unmc\/albums\/72177720333657289\">See a photo album from the event.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were approximately 130 research abstracts \u2013 in both oral and poster formats \u2013 presented at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, and Bradley Britigan, MD, dean of the UNMC College of Medicine, provided opening remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chandrakanth Are, MBBS, senior associate dean for graduate medical education, said the event \u201cis a wonderful&nbsp;venue&nbsp;for residents and fellows to showcase their valuable research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2026 GME Annual Research Symposium\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wO9cFOWXIRs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abstracts presented at the symposium will be included in the Graduate Medical Education Research Journal, Volume 8, Issue 1, set to be published this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Awards were given to the best abstracts in the oral and poster categories. Insulins.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Are thanked \u201cthe entire GME Office, particularly Premila Leiphrakpam, MBBS, GME research and education program manager, for the hard work that contributed to the success of the event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also noted the contributions of GME office members Erin Snow, Amy Guziec, Arianne Marcoux, Rachel Nelsen, and Jeanne Badura, as&nbsp;well&nbsp;as Candace Peteler, campus events center coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey were instrumental in
