{"id":133345,"date":"2026-06-19T11:58:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T16:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=133345"},"modified":"2026-06-19T11:59:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T16:59:00","slug":"mmi-partners-with-joslyn-castle-to-staff-carriage-house-cafe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/06\/19\/mmi-partners-with-joslyn-castle-to-staff-carriage-house-cafe\/","title":{"rendered":"MMI partners with Joslyn Castle to staff Carriage House Cafe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clients in the Munroe-Meyer Institute\u2019s job training program have a new gig \u2014 working behind the counter of the new Carriage House Caf\u00e9 at Joslyn Castle &amp; Gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The caf\u00e9 is a new enterprise designed to provide workforce development experiences for adults served by MMI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through hands-on training in a real-world setting, participants will build essential job skills, including customer service, teamwork and food service operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is an exciting way to enhance and expand our training,\u201d said Rachel Ray, assistant professor and Nebraska EmployABILITY project director at MMI. \u201cThese new training opportunities will help prepare students for long-term employment success while building the skills employers are seeking in today\u2019s workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To start, the caf\u00e9 is open Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., aligning with Joslyn Castle tour times. The limited menu offers coffee, tea and scones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One MMI trainee staffs the caf\u00e9 right now, Ray said. The smell of coffee wafted through the Carriage House at the caf\u00e9\u2019s recent grand opening.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The caf\u00e9 is important to the work done at MMI and through the Nebraska EmployABILITY Project, Ray said. \u201cTo have such a fabulous partner is a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project is funded by Joslyn Castle and the U.S. Department of Education, grant number H421F240047.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The caf\u00e9 is a new enterprise designed to provide workforce development experiences for adults served by MMI.
