{"id":133383,"date":"2026-06-23T07:14:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T12:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=133383"},"modified":"2026-06-23T07:14:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T12:14:07","slug":"mello-finishes-term-as-aamc-steering-committee-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/06\/23\/mello-finishes-term-as-aamc-steering-committee-chair\/","title":{"rendered":"Mello finishes term as AAMC steering committee chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Catherine Mello, director of the UNMC Office of Alumni Relations, just completed a 13-month term as the chair of the steering committee for the Association of American Medical Colleges\u2019 Group on Institutional Advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe group is made up of development officers, alumni relations professionals, communications professionals and marketing professionals who support colleges of medicine,\u201d Mello said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis role has enabled me to connect with colleagues across the country, and not only learn from their experiences, but share the great work that&#8217;s happening at UNMC and share our best practices with them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A high point of her term was chairing the group\u2019s annual professional development conference, which drew more than 600 attendees last spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat was not only a learning experience, but a huge honor to serve in that leadership role,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGroup leaders and steering committee members are an essential link between the AAMC and its member institutions,\u201d David Skorton, MD, AAMC president and CEO, told Mello in a letter. \u201cYour dedication has been critical to the success of the Group on Institutional Advancement, the academic medicine community, and the AAMC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNMC Interim Chancellor H. Dele Davies, MD, congratulated Mello on her year as chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCatherine Mello was a distinguished ambassador for UNMC during her tenure as the chair of the steering committee for the AAMC\u2019s Group on Institutional Advancement,\u201d Dr. Davies said. \u201cWe congratulate her on the end of her term, a significant national accomplishment with contributions that have made a meaningful difference to the committee, the broader academic medicine community and UNMC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mello, who has served on the steering committee in several different capacities, will be past president for the next year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNMC Catherine Mello chaired the AAMC
