Department chair Andrew Patterson, MD, PhD, and vice chair of education, Nicholas Markin, MD \u2013 standing in for program director Andrea Dutoit, MD &#8211; welcomed attendees before an evening of awards, recognition and send-offs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chandra Are, MBBS, associate dean for graduate medical education and Erin Snow,<a> <\/a>director of graduate medical education, presented the House Officer of the Year Award to Robert Guidangen, MD, who was also recognized with a Certificate of Academic Excellence among CA3 residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Brad Paulson Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Brad Paulson Award, recognizing an outstanding senior medical student each year, was presented to Megan Ott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Teacher of the Year Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residents and fellows recognized faculty excellence across every training level:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CBY Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Haysam Akkad, MD, presented by Kaihlen Schoettmer, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CA1 Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Wahida Khan, MD, presented by Zachary Walkenhorst, MD, with honorable mention certificates to Gregory Meister, MD, and Huiling Pang, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CA2 Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Rebecca Aron, MD, presented by Jacob Glowacki, DO<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CA3 Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Huiling Pang, MD, presented by Sara Linza-Moscati, DO, with an honorable mention certificate to Dr. Meister<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Rebecca Aron, MD, presented by Miles McNeir, DO<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Critical Care Medicine Anesthesiology Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Sajid Shahul, MD, presented by Nicholas Linares, DO, with honorable mention certificates to Joseph Pawlowski, MD, and Wahida Khan, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pain Medicine Teacher of the Year:<\/strong> Robert Muelleman, MD, presented by Jordan Cruz, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pediatric Anesthesiology Teacher of the Year: <\/strong>Andrew Braith, MD, presented by Lauren Costello, MD, and Colton Roessner, MD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Certificates of Academic Excellence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certificates of Academic Excellence are awarded to residents who achieved academic excellence by performing in the top 25% of trainees nationally by year of training on the annual Anesthesiology in-training examinations in February. Lockhart, MD:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lauren Costello, MD \u2013<\/strong> UNMC Department of Anesthesiology\/ Children&#8217;s Nebraska faculty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Colton Roessner, MD &#8211;<\/strong> Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellowship at UNMC Department of Anesthesiology\/ Children&#8217;s Nebraska<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation of Residents<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Markin presented the Class of 2026 residents, with remarks drawing on peer reflections and superlatives collected from across the program. Twelve residents completed their training:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Joshua Abels, MD,<\/strong> was recognized for his calm, steady presence in the operating room -colleagues called him &#8220;a quiet reassurance in every situation.&#8221; Dr. Abels will join the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hayden Brodersen, MD<\/strong>, voted best conversationalist during the MAC case, was praised as the program&#8217;s best storyteller and described as funny, driven, and easy to work with. Dr. Brodersen will continue with the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zachary Egr, MD,<\/strong> voted best poker face behind the mask, was described by colleagues as personable, astute, and unexpectedly serious &#8211; someone &#8220;easy to talk to and always in your corner.&#8221; Dr. Egr will pursue a Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cameron Evans, MD,<\/strong> voted most likely to work 1.5 FTE, was called everyone&#8217;s big brother &#8211; affable, easygoing, and known for a frank honesty that made him one of the most fun residents to work with. Dr. Evans will join Ozark Anesthesia Associates in Springfield, MO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Robert Guidangen, MD,<\/strong> voted most likely to be president of the ASA, was described as smart, steady, and brilliant under pressure &#8211; &#8220;nobody manages a high case quite like Dr. Guidangen.&#8221; Dr. Guidangen will pursue a Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jennie Keum, MD<\/strong>, voted best bedside leader at 3 a.m., was praised as the nicest senior resident &#8211; warm, loving, calm under pressure, and once credited with delivering a journal club presentation with a crying child on her lap. Dr. Keum will continue with the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at UNMC\/Children&#8217;s Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sara Linza-Moscati, DO<\/strong>, voted most willing to listen to a colleague after a difficult day, was described as fully invested in her patients, strong clinically, and a champion for everyone around her. Dr. Linza-Moscati will pursue combined Critical Care and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowships at UNMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shawn Nelson, MD<\/strong>, voted most efficient wake-up &#8211; so efficient he&#8217;s already gone&#8221; &#8211; was described as honest, focused, reliable, and the king of sarcasm. Dr. Nelson has joined Intermountain Health Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, UT, and the department wished him and his growing family well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alec Seei, DO<\/strong>, a vocal leader and outgoing chief resident appreciated for his organization and leadership, was described as driven, helpful, and passionate. Dr. Seei will pursue Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Fellowships at UNMC before joining the department faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Noah Svec, MD<\/strong>, fellow outgoing chief resident, was recognized for his thoughtfulness, compassion, and consistent advocacy for residents. Dr. Svec will continue with the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at UNMC\/Children&#8217;s Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Christopher Weber, MD<\/strong>, the &#8220;professional clown of the class&#8221; and someone colleagues called &#8220;the one we all call when we need help,&#8221; was known for being fun, hardworking, and always prepared. Dr. Weber will join Anesthesia West in Omaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jenna Wright, DO<\/strong>, voted best post-call disposition and recognized for her dedication to learning, was described as down-to-earth, bubbly, magnetic, and someone who always had something unexpected happen &#8211; and handled it with grace. Dr. Wright will join Sentara Rockingham Memorial in Harrisonburg, VA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UNMC
