{"id":134421,"date":"2026-08-04T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=134421"},"modified":"2026-08-03T19:14:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T00:14:21","slug":"no-1-hospital-for-the-15th-straight-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/08\/04\/no-1-hospital-for-the-15th-straight-year\/","title":{"rendered":"No. 1 hospital for the 15th straight year\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s&nbsp;an elite distinction that only 16% of evaluated hospitals receive: a U.S. News &amp; World Report Best Hospitals designation. \u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the publication evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide to develop\u00a0its\u00a0annual list of Best Hospitals. In developing these rankings, they look at things like risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, patient experience, and level of nursing care.\u00a0Once again, Nebraska Medical Center is the No. 1-rated hospital in the state of Nebraska and the Omaha metro area.\u00a0In addition, Nebraska Medicine&#8217;s cancer and gastroenterology and GI surgery programs both achieved national rankings, placing them in the top 50 nationally. Two other specialties were listed as high performing:\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neurology and neurosurgery\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pulmonology and lung surgery\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eleven procedures and conditions were rated as high performing, the highest ranking possible: \u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Back surgery&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colon cancer surgery&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gynecological cancer surgery&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heart arrhythmia&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heart failure&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kidney failure&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pneumonia&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stroke&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEarning the distinction of Nebraska\u2019s top-ranked hospital year after year, along with national recognition for our cancer and GI programs, is a testament to the talent, compassion and commitment of our colleagues,\u201d\u00a0said\u202fMichael Ash, MD, Nebraska Medicine CEO. \u201cWhile we are proud of this recognition, what matters most is what it means\u00a0for\u00a0our patients.
