{"id":134605,"date":"2026-08-11T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T15:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=134605"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:11:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T16:11:28","slug":"dr-paul-fey-looks-forward-to-term-as-unmc-faculty-senate-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unmc.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/08\/11\/dr-paul-fey-looks-forward-to-term-as-unmc-faculty-senate-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Paul Fey looks forward to term as UNMC Faculty Senate president"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forgive Paul Fey, PhD, a professor in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, if you can\u2019t keep up with him in 2026-2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/info.unmc.edu\/blog\/facultysenate\/\">UNMC Faculty Senate<\/a> president, he will preside over the group\u2019s monthly meetings and attend monthly NU Board of Regents meetings, as well as quarterly meetings with the University president and Faculty Senate presidents from the other NU campuses. All that, of course, in addition to his everyday roles as professor and vice chair of research in the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To Dr. Fey, it\u2019s worth it. \u201cIt\u2019s an important thing\u2014it\u2019s an honor to be elected,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it has some really important functions in the sense that the Faculty Senate is the voice of the faculty with the administration, so every year that I\u2019ve been part of it, there have been some unique things that have come up every year, whether budgetary issues or, last year with Nebraska Medicine and UNMC, there was a lot of discussion with the administration about that, and the challenges for the clinical faculty associated with that change. So every year, there\u2019s something different and unique\u2014you kind of have to be ready for it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, \u201cI\u2019d like to reintroduce the Faculty Senate to the faculty at large and let them know what we can offer them,\u201d he said. \u201cI think there are situations where the faculty have felt they don\u2019t have a voice, a place to go, and I\u2019d like to ensure that they know there are places to go for them to be heard. I\u2019d like to go and talk to people and ensure that those particular lines of communication from faculty to the Faculty Senate to the administration are clear.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Fey said being senate president \u201cprovides a platform for you to be on committees that you wouldn\u2019t otherwise be and provide a voice for the faculty in that regard. Again, it\u2019s an honor and I\u2019m happy to do it.
